Summary/Description: The years spent in darkness have spiraled out, each one in a row like the ridges in a snail's shell, expanding as they go, and Severus has waited for this man. This is how he leaves.
This is an entry for Kinky Kristmas on daily_deviant, one of my favorite fics of the entire fest season thus far. Snape has spent years in a portrait, fully conscious, and is suddenly released by an old friend. This sort of reminded me of the scene in Kill Bill when Uma Thurman is nailed into that coffin and buried alive. I read this story with the same sense of horror, imagining what it must feel like to realize that you're trapped, but your mind goes on and on and on... I won't spoil the rest of it, what happens when Snape is finally free and realizes his captivity might've been shorter. What he chooses to do in the end, well, I think I can understand.
Beautifully written, and not very long (which is not to say I'm dissing longer fics (me of all people), but I say it to try and finalge those of you who don't have time to read anything longer to at least read this one. I've rec-ed valis2's The Pond before. Both of these fics have the same feel to them, and if you've not read 'The Pond', I really recommend it, especially if you like the one I've just rec-ed today.

In which I walked Juno, went to the dentist, found a beef roast for Friday (for me, all for me! - SO is having Cornish game hen), did 5 loads of laundry, and worked on SO's vest. (Can I just say what a PITA pockets are?) Probably another 4 hours to go on that, which I will do tomorrow. Himself should be home soon and we will have leftovers of some ilk for dinner. Then I think I will work on the pinch-hit (longhand so I can sit downstairs by the tree). Need to consult w/ SO about some food for Friday, too.

THE FANFICTION LOVE MEME
Okay, before you roll your eyes, there's a strategy to this.
Since I no longer effectively have a flavour of the month where fanfic is concerned (Given that nearly all my time is going into publishable work these days,) I'd kind of like to find out what's got staying power. What's still memorable now that it's been months since my 'latest fic'. I have a unique opportunity to ask for some long-view perspective from people who've been reading my stories for the better part of five years now, as well as from people who've but recently dived into fandom, and might know only one or two of my works. It's helpful as a writer, to get this kind of objective feedback, because in order to play to one's creative strengths, it's important to know those strengths, and not just from one's own perspective.
So, if you all would kindly indulge me, what's your favorite of the stories I've written? And if you could see your way clear to telling me what stands out about it, that'd be even better. Self reflection is easier when one has folks who're willing to hold up mirrors, don'tchaknow. (And yes, there's a bit of a love-in feel to all of this, I'll admit. That's part of the attraction, isn't it?)
